Vancouver Cup
December 2, Vancouver, BC

On December 2, 2007 seven members from Calgary Kyokushin Karate competed in the 2007 Vancouver Cup. The Vancouver Cup was first held in 2000 and over the last eight years it has grown to be one of the premier Kyokushin events in Canada. This year close to 50 competitors challenged one another to see who would win the cups.

From Calgary, Scott walked away with 3rd place in the men’s 13&14 year old division. Stian performed very well and rose to the top of the very talented and challenging 15&16 year old men’s division. Jose challenged herself and for the first time competed in the Kata division. Richard fought well but was forced to stop due to a knee injury. Doug competed in the kata portion and did very well, placing just outside the medals. Jordan lost his first match in the 17&18 year old men’s division to the eventual winner, and Kristen did an exceptional job fighting in her first open tournament. Though she did not win the match, much was said about her potential as a fighter as she challenged her more experienced opponent to the limit.

Thank you once again to tournament director Tats Nakamura and his team of dedicated individuals for an outstanding job in organizing such a great event. See you in 2008.
