Canadian Championships
May 2, 2015
On May 2, the 32nd Canadian Kyokushin Karate Championships were once again held in Burnaby BC. This year 23 members from Calgary participated in the tournament. Non-contact fighting, Kata, Team Kata and Knockdown fighting all offered challenges for everyone. Once again our team members did VERY well, in fact, Calgary won the team award. The team award is given to the club whose team members earn the most victories. Congratulations guys. GREAT JOB. You should all be very proud.
Of course the Canadian Championships is not just about going to a Karate Tournament and doing well. Most importantly, this event, as the other events in our organization, is about people. Meeting new people, reminiscing with longtime friends about the past, talking with others about their experiences of the day, and getting excited about the possibilities of the future. It is the people that make this weekend so important.
Friendships and relationships are often solidified when we have the opportunity to share and experience similar feelings and emotions with others at the same time. Furthermore the opportunity to share these feelings helps us grow into more understanding and compassionate individuals, and defines who we are. Nervousness, challenge, fear, excitement, sadness, hurt, exhilaration, pride, love. They are all a part of us, and the Canadian Championships.
